From Garage to Frizzle: Our Freeze-Dried Journey

In July of 2020, right in the heart of a global pandemic, we launched a company in our garage with six Harvest Right freeze dryers, a whole lot of hope, and a mission to help families create their own food storage with foods they already knew and loved. That was the beginning of Family Freeze Dry - and what would eventually grow into something much bigger than we ever imagined.

What started as a way to freeze dry meals for others quickly evolved when we tried something that was just beginning to trend on TikTok: freeze dried candy. We tossed in a batch of Skittles and, well… they blew up - literally and figuratively. That one experiment sparked a journey we couldn’t have predicted.

From Our Garage to a Manufacturing Facility

We began under Utah’s cottage food laws, working out of our garage and selling at local farmers markets and summer events. Our Skittles were a hit, and soon Bit O’ Honey and Big Hunks followed — though those proved too labor-intensive to scale (have you ever tried unwrapping and cutting a thousand Bit-O-Honey's?).

As demand grew, we made the leap from garage to a small storefront. Eventually, we transitioned again - closing our shop to focus on retail and online sales. Today, we operate out of a full-scale manufacturing facility and warehouse, producing millions of units a year, serving both individual customers and retail partners across the country.

It’s been a wild ride- quitting our jobs, trusting our gut, and finding a way to stand out even as more local competitors joined the scene. But we’ve never lost sight of what matters: great products and personal service.

From Family Freeze Dry to Frizzle

This past April, we made a change that felt inevitable: we officially renamed our company Frizzle.

Why the change? Simple - Frizzle is more fun! Our candy line had always been called Frizzle, and it was clear that customers connected with it. The name brought smiles. It matched our vibe. And to be honest, it cleared up some confusion - people weren’t always sure if our brand was Frizzle or Family Freeze Dry. Now, it’s both clear and catchy.

Frizzle reflects who we are today: playful, bold, and totally craveable. Our tagline, “Send your taste buds to paradise,” says it all.

What Hasn’t Changed

No matter how much we grow, some things never change. We’re still obsessed with delivering the highest quality freeze dried candy and giving our customers the small-business attention they deserve. We may operate at scale, but our hearts are still in every product we ship.

What’s Next for Frizzle?

We’re just getting started.
Our Krackles line - fizzy, crunchy, colorful candy that melts in your mouth  is expanding fast, and we’re always experimenting with fun new flavors. We’re also working to build a network of brand ambassadors who can help share the Frizzle experience far and wide.

Our goal? To become a household name for freeze dried candy - the kind you keep stocked for road trips, reunions, late-night snacks, and everything in between.
